When I experienced a violation of my dignity
As a student, I once experienced a violation of my dignity during a class presentation. I had worked hard on my project, but when I stood up to present, my teacher interrupted me repeatedly, making dismissive comments about my work in front of the entire class. She criticized not just my ideas, but also my speaking style and even my appearance.
This experience left me feeling humiliated and devalued. My cheeks burned with embarrassment as I struggled to continue, aware of my classmates’ uncomfortable glances. I felt as if my effort and worth as a student were being completely disregarded.
In the days that followed, I struggled with self-doubt and anxiety about participating in class. The incident made me realize how crucial it is for authority figures to treat others, especially those under their care, with respect and kindness. It also taught me the importance of standing up for myself and others when faced with unfair treatment, as preserving dignity is essential for everyone’s well-being and self-esteem.
